About Us
Mati Art is an alternative art gallery with a rich repertoire of folk and tribal art acquired from across the country. Located in the historically lush neighborhood of Hauz Khas Village in South Delhi, it stands surrounded by a mix of medieval Islamic architecture, urban popular culture, and refurbished upmarket. MATI comes from the word “mitti” meaning mud, inspired by its adherent properties, Mati Art envisions to be a strong binding force that aims to mend the broken link between contemporary art and folk and tribal art.
Mati Art is not just an art gallery but an extension of a bigger idea, conceived out of the trust Management of Art Treasures of India (MATI), the gallery is dedicated to the promotion of India’s art heritage by providing a discursive platform for growth and value generation keeping true to our namesake. With a fully-equipped conservation and documentation team, our focus is to eventually build a folk and tribal art archive to document tangible and intangible art heritage with a clear mandate to not separate objects from its story.
