13,200.00

A collectible brass plate from Maharashtra showing Veerabhadra armed with weapons and flanked by goat-headed Dakha and another deity. Veerbhadra, derived from two Sanskrit words Veer (hero) and Bhadra (friend), carries four different weapons in his hands: Bana (arrow), Khadga (sword), Dhanusha (bow), and Khetaka (shield), along with garlands of skulls. This ferocious warrior form was created by Shiva to avenge the death of Sati, his first consort.\nAccording to the legend, Daksha organized a sacred yajna where he does not invite Shiva and Sati. Sati chooses to attend the yajna in protest only to be insulted by Daksha in front of the attendees. Angered and humiliated by the insults, she sets herself on fire. Shiva, enraged by the incident, creates Veerabhadra and Bhadrakali from a lock of his hair and sends the two to destroy the yajna and everyone attending it, ultimately beheading Daksha. Vishu and Brahma, aware of the importance of the yajna, decided to reason with Shiva for its completion. They both went to Mount Kailash, and Lord Brahma asked to forgive Daksha for his behavior and pleaded for the return of his son. The compassionate Shiva felt pity for Prasuti (Daksha’s consort) and restored his burnt head with that of a goat.
